It's happening - Google Teases Bard AI

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how ChatGPT will force Google to re-imagine its core product, Google Search.

Today, the re-imagining has begun.

Reports today have revealed that Google has been “testing some of these features with employees as part of a “code red” plan to respond to ChatGPT”.

Here’s a mockup of what it might look like:

This is HUGE. Google has famously been creeping into more and more screen real estate with its ad placements - pushing more and more search and shopping ads into the top SERP positions and pushing organic results further and further down the page.

This mockup (which I’m sure is preliminary) - would tank search revenue.

The mockup here is the result for an information search (is piano or guitar…) so it’s possible that these AI results are not cannibalizing paid search placements, but it’s also possible that conversational AI responses will start to appear on more commerce-oriented queries as well.
